Happy Birthday!

Monday was our Boxer's second Birthday. Leave it to my wife to always remember the important dates. I wanted to get a quick portrait of her on the day to commemorate the day. One thing about Boxers, they don't like to sit still. Luckily after a bit of playing she was more tuned to sitting for a few seconds while a could get a shot off, by then she was off again. I used my 36in octabox overhead with a flash on 1/2 power. I was hand holding the octa as it was easier to place it where I wanted when Khaleesi (the Boxer) was sitting. Photo settings were ISO 200, @ F11, 1/200 sec. After a few quick Lightroom adjustments I then sent it over to Photoshop. I cleaned up some dog park scratches and watery eyes, dodged, and burned her coat, liquified a little flap of skin on the right and tucked her ribs back in on the right side. Here is a the photo SOC for comparison.

You may ask, liquify on a dog? Really??? Yes, really. That flap of skin was a brighter color and really was noticeable. While I know I could have fixed it during the shoot, remember she wasn't wanting to stay in one spot very long. (What Boxer does?) So I really just was trying to grab a quick shot of her on the backdrop and it was actually easier to just fix it on post. Same with the rib cage. Dogs don't understand when you ask them to pose for you.

And here is a photo of her when we first picked her up. My has she grown.
